Help to return to work

Many people of working age are affected by cancer. Some carry on working during treatment whilst others find that they may need to take time off or need to consider adjustments to their work responsibilities.

Being able to work can give us a sense of purpose and a routine. It’s generally good for us, but it is important to consider how cancer is affecting your health, wellbeing and your ability to work effectively.

If you have questions and would like to talk about your work situation then please contact us at the Ipswich Cancer Wellbeing and Information Centre to make an appointment. We will go through a checklist with you to ensure you have taken any necessary steps to support your return to work. It would be helpful if you could complete as much of the checklist as possible before our appointment. It can be downloaded by clicking here.

We can:

  • offer advice and guidance on a realistic phased return to your work place.

  • write a letter for you to share with your employer to help them understand your situation and to encourage them to make reasonable adaptations to your work in order for you to have a successful return if that is what you choose to do.

There are a number of booklets that you can have to help you and your employer understand your disability rights as a cancer patient with guidance on reasonable adjustments and possible options for you.
